finally! It's taken just over 2 years to get her back on the road, mainly due to lack of funds, but also because we needed to get her fit enough to pass an MOT.
We've certainly been enjoying this weekend greenlaning with the help of local O/S maps to discover hidden byways. We found a lovely long one near Peterborough which we used on Sunday to get to my brother-in-law's birthday bash, and then drove quite a few miles yesterday to enjoy a couple of byways in the Thetford area.
We started off yesterday at Stradsett Park for an annual Steam Vintage Rally. Apart from Paul, the three of us weren't that keen on going, to tell the truth. It had been a busy weekend and it felt like "stuff" was piling up around me (it still is)! Very pleased Paul managed to convince us to go - the weather (although breezy) stayed dry until we headed home, and the rally was interesting and worth heading out for. Paul was pleased to see some other military Landrovers there and Ben was enthralled by all the working engines. Katie and I found the stalls the most interesting (ladies and shopping go together) - lots of antique style goods for sale and really good prices. I was over-the-moon to find the game Pit on one stall for just £5. A game my sister and I grew up with, very exciting and noisy, as I remember, and always great fun, but I'd never seen it around. Our family version dates back to the 50s apparently. Not too sure how old the one I bought yesterday is, but it's certainly been loved and well played. Looking forward to introducing the game to my children.
One of many lovingly restored engines - this one, like several, was for pumping water.
After the rally we headed off into beautiful Thetford (need to go back and explore more) another 20 or so miles away, to find the greenlanes. Here's some piccies:
How children grow up - just 2 years ago this same view would have shown Katie with pigtails.
Bumpy lanes - children still love it.
We came across this derelict church looking for a greenlane - next door was the most beautiful thatched cottage - so tiny and perfectly looked after.
