Absolutely stunning family house set in 45 acres of explorable gardens, woodlands and open land, Margaretta House is also an animal rescue and educational centre. Large blackboards displaying fun-to-read educational bits where posted around the site, next to the animal pens and around the grounds to guide visitors to the enchanted, spooky forest or to the quiet area for some peace (although the whole place seem to ooze calm and tranquility).
Some trees had faces, mainly in the woodland area where lots of Halloween masks, cobwebs and spooky models where among the trees.
We were lucky enough to have a cuddle with a very young alsatian puppy - such a bundle of fluff - who didn't care at all about being passed from one set of arms to another. We also held ducklings that the owners had brought in that day. Notices pointed out that chickens (ex battery hens to be) and rabbits were available to good, caring homes - we were very tempted!
On the way out we noticed that they were looking for volunteers to help with the farm animals and childrens' craft activities for the summer. We may well be back there on a regular basis!
Ben being quiet (as he can be) in the Quiet Area. Nestled between an old brick wall (which radiated the heat), a veggie patch, trees and sheep, this was a lovely place to just sit and take it all in.
