We have a fabulous HE lady who runs a bi-weekly art class for some of our home ed group children. Katie's been taking part since it started, which was quite some time ago, and has really enjoyed the different art techniques that she's learnt so far. This week's project was "tone and portraits", where the children had to bring in a picture of a self portrait that they particularly liked and tell the group a little about it. Katie chose this one by Frida Kahlo as it had more colour and interest compared to some of the others!
The group were set tasks to draw their own self portraits first using white paper and charcoal/ graphite stick (to highlight the darker areas of their faces) and then on black paper with chalk (highlighting the lighter areas of their faces). After a short break they did four quick 5 minute self portraits pulling various strange faces!
The end results were marvellous - so diverse.
